Shark Awareness Day!

Chomp, chomp, chomp! Who would want to be attacked by a terrorizing, blood-thirsty monster?! According to the International Shark Attack File, the odds of being attacked are 1 in 11.5 million. We should protect our shark because they are one of many animals that play a crucial part in the food chain; they help maintain the balance. That is, until shark fishing has decreased the number of sharks, due to the fact that sharks can't reproduce as quickly as they are hunted. In addition, when eating shark meat, you are putting yourself in danger. Toxic metals are sometimes thrown into the ocean, and when sharks ingest them, we ingest them too. The metal that can be potentially dangerous is methyl mercury. It can lead to neurological disorders, autism, infertility, Coronary heart disease or even death. That is why Shark Awareness Day helps educate that sharks are just curious, and that you have a surprisingly higher risk of being struck by lightening then being attacked by a shark. Shark encounters are extremely rare, and only certain breeds of sharks have been known to be aggressive. In reality, most breeds are just curious.
